Inside the combustion engine

March 24th, 2010 Adam No comments

A nice example of how your car engine works. It is amazing that this process goes on thousands of times a minute without any interference (usually). The amount of engineering is quite amazing and something we take for granted to just work every time we turn the key.

What will Oracle do with Sun’s open-source software?

February 16th, 2010 Adam No comments

Now that Oracle owns Sun, what will happen to all of the open-source software under Sun? These projects include MySQL, OpenSolaris, and OpenOffice. One thing is for certain, that former Sun employees will be laid off, but the number is not know. The best guesses put the number at around 1000 and likely most will be from the open-source divisions. Two former products have been cut, Project Wonderland and Project Kenai.

Overall, OpenOffice will be the most likely to survive as Oracle doesn’t have any competing products. MySQL is a toss-up because Oracle makes their own database software, but it is widely used. OpenSolaris will likely be cut from getting resources. It will be up to the community to possibly take over the code.

Maybe he used it for too many demonstrations and it finally gave out. Or maybe he doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Ah, it’s the day of the Super Bowl and lots of companies are busting out their creative commercials. However, the Super Bowl isn’t the only place where you can find creative commercials. This one is for a Russian insurance company, pretty good if you ask me.

Graphical demonstration of the Solar System

February 7th, 2010 Adam No comments

This site has a pretty nice demonstration of the Solar System. You can speed things up or slow them down and even go back in time to see how the planets move throughout the ages. It is slightly inaccurate since it still includes Pluto, but Pluto will always be a planet in my heart. It is also very interesting to see just how long it takes the outer planets to make a revolution around the Sun compared to the inner planets.

Apple releases the iPad

January 27th, 2010 Adam No comments

Apple iPad

Apple has released its much rumored tablet PC now called the iPad and along with it comes a big bag of MEH! This thing is nothing special at all; it is garbage. Basically it is a giant iPod Touch for more of your hard earned money. Some of the features include:

  • No multitasking – I see you haven’t learn from the iPhone
  • No camera or SMS ability
  • No FLASH – seriously Apple?
  • Nice size screen with a 1024 x 768 resolution
  • eBook implementation
  • $499 price tag – One thing Apple is good at, overcharging

  • I am guessing the lack of features are so Apple can release a version next year with some of them and proclaim it as another innovative device by Apple! Woo hoo! This thing is a turd. On top of that, they have shot themselves in the foot in releasing a Mini or Nano version because the iPhone and iPod Touch already exist. However, I am sure Apple will find a way to con its fanboys into thinking it is something new and amazing. Shame on you Apple for bringing out this piece of crap.
